The ACU-SELF Self-Adjusting Floating Baffle System is designed to reduce floating debris from entering storm water overflow systems, combined sewer overflow (CSO) systems, sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) systems, retention tank overflows and basin overflows. The ACU-SELF can also be installed in channels or culverts where floatables retention is required.
The ACU-SELF Self-Adjusting Floating Baffle can vary from a model GAS-S-30-* to GAS-S-90-*. The GAS-S-30-* is designed for 12 inches (30 cm) of flow depth and measures up to a maximum of 13 feet (4 m) in length. The GAS-S-90-* is designed for 36 inches (90 cm) of flow depth and measures up to a maximum of 13 feet (4 m) in length. The ACU-SELF’s model selection is based solely on flow depth and the channel width or weir length. The units are currently designated with asterix due to the high variety of model options.
The ACU-SELF is a pivoted stainless steel self-adjusting floating baffle mounted above the weir or channel floor. In the rest position the ACU-SELF hangs down, due to its own weight, thereby stopping debris from reaching the overflow. When the baffle is immersed more than halfway, it pivots upwards and rises with the rising water level. The floatables move to the top simultaneously with the water level. As a result of this unique restraining effect, the floatables cannot attain the area between the baffle and the weir and are directed to the wastewater treatment plant for CSO and SSO applications. In the case of storm water applications, the debris is retained in the channel for removal after a storm event. This unique operation ensures maximum floatables retention. The ACU-SELF’s lightweight design makes it highly responsive to minimal water level changes while ensuring structural stability.
